Beginning in January 2015, Memorial Park Conservancy worked with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department to rehabilitate the natural surface trails on the South side of Memorial Park. With the help of community volunteers, the Greater Houston Off-Road Biking Association, Houston Area Trail Runners, and various other volunteer groups MPC teamed up with the only company in Texas to be a member of the Professional Trail Builders Association, S&S Trail Services, to create big impacts on the trails. The team built boardwalks over low areas to help with drainage and built up the trail in places where it had been eroded. The result is a more sustainable trail that drains quickly after rainfall. Additionally, new trail markers have been placed as well as maps to assist trail users with wayfinding.
