Dear Memorial Park Friends,
The year 2009 marked the 85th anniversary of Memorial Park. Once a WW I training camp, the park has transformed into 1,503 acres of trails, fields, forest and green space for a variety of users. Numbers tell us that more than 10 million people use the park in a year; and we are happy to have such a popular, enjoyable and user friendly park in the midst of roadways and freeways. It is evident that Memorial Park is important to you, and that is why we are appealing to you online to contribute toward the general operations of Memorial Park Conservancy and its mission of preservation of the native habitat of Memorial Park.
Memorial Park Conservancy works closely with Houston Parks & Recreation Department to ensure Memorial Park continues to be all things to all users, especially as the economy forces all of us to make cutbacks and as tax dollars lessen. Capital improvements are continuing, including the Living Bridge, connecting the north and south sides of the Park; an updated and welcoming tennis plaza will be complete late winter and an additional multi-use trail will break ground in the spring. However, general contributions are just as important, or even more so, to the ongoing support of Memorial Park. Plans for 2010 include a forestry management plan, trail improvements and sustainability, park maps, restroom maintenance, more doggie waste bags, updating of Bush Grove as well as continued efforts in gardening, invasive species removal and education.
The Conservancy believes in simple, practical and professional solutions for Memorial Park and we champion those of you who feel the same. Our staff is available to answer questions, share information, speak to your group and assist corporate efforts in the park that further the work of MPC and HPARD. Help us continue to plan, protect and preserve Memorial Park by making a contribution to Memorial Park Conservancy today.
Sincerely,
Memorial Park Conservancy
